Mary Outram’s Autumn Style Edit at The Crossing
At The Crossing, we are always looking for ways to showcase the style and talent within our retail mix. Mary Outram has launched a new seasonal column with The Crossing and Metropol Magazine, where she shares the pieces she is reaching for and the small styling shifts that make each season feel fresh. Keep an eye out for her quarterly updates.
For this first edition, Mary has created an autumn edit using pieces from stores across The Crossing. Here is how she describes the looks:
The Autumn Reset
I’m so excited to be introducing this new seasonal feature with Metropol… a space where I’ll share the pieces I’m reaching for, the trends I’m actually wearing, and the small styling shifts that make a new season feel fresh again.
Although autumn has only just begun, it feels like we’ve already had such a strange summer that I found myself reaching for layering pieces earlier than usual. There’s something about that slight drop in temperature that makes you want a bit more structure, a bit more intention. Last season I lived in jeans and trousers. Easy, reliable, on repeat. But this season I feel myself leaning back into femininity. Softer shapes. Skirts. Movement. Pieces that feel a little more considered and a little less ‘just throwing something on.’
One thing I’ve always believed when shopping is that if something is styled beautifully in store… buy the outfit! If a skirt and jacket are clearly meant to be worn together, or a top and trousers just work, don’t overthink it. Sometimes the magic is in the full look. You can always break it apart later, but there’s something powerful about wearing the set exactly as it was envisioned.
For this autumn edit, I’ve focused on tonal dressing with soft structure. Some elevated neutrals, texture, and pieces that layer easily. Plus a pop of red. Because red against camel, chocolate, cream or grey feels strong without being loud. It instantly lifts a look. This is autumn dressing, reset.
