Winter is coming

WINTER’S MOST WEARABLE TRENDS TO TRY NOW

Want to remain both stylish and warm during the colder months ahead? We’ve pulled together the key trends and hero looks to shop for during autumn/ winter 2018.

Suit up

Forget what you know about suits: no longer reserved for corporate environments, suiting is a key wardrobe builder this winter season. Worn as both co-ordinates and separates, the right suit can take your look from day to night and from the office to the weekend with a simple change of accessories.

The star suiting option this season is undoubtedly the check or hound’s tooth suit; dress it up by layering it with a colourful coat or blouse, or dress it down with a slogan tee and cowboy boots. Worn separately, the outfit combinations are endless.

Power combination

Leopard print returns this winter – although some will argue it never left. This time we see its influence across outwear, knits and accessories. This season, however, it pairs up more notably with softer shades of pink and nude, lending a more elegant interpretation to the animal print trend. Team up a leopard printed faux fur coat with a structured soft print dress and ankle boots, or invest in a leopard print knit and wear it with a soft pink handbag or heels.

Let it shine

The skies may be turning grey as the months get colder, but fashion has never looked this glamourous. Disco bling and embellishments makes its way to fashion’s centre stage and into our wardrobes. The best way to get your shine on is to invest in one knock-out embellished dress – find a gold or silver sequinned option that suits your style (stay away from rose gold or copper) and team it up with muted footwear. For the maximum effect, team up winter’s must-have dress with oversized metal earrings and a clutch.

Play with texture

Incorporating elements of texture to your look remains one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to update your style this season while keeping you warm. Mohair, faux fur, satin, patent leather, shaggy wool and textured checks are all on-trend options to elevate your winter wardrobe. Invest in a mohair longer-length cardigan, shaggy coat or fur-trimmed beanie to up your weekend game, or shop for a full-length printed matte satin dress or a crushed satin blouse for a more elegant look. Leather biker jackets have been around for a few seasons but we still haven’t had enough of them.

Get shorty

Inspired by runway collections, shorter hemlines is another key fashion trend returning this winter. Whether you prefer to show some leg or flash your woollen tights, it’s time to take a layered approached to your outfits this season. Team up flared or tiered micro-skirts and thigh-grazing dresses with longer-length coats and over-the-knee boots in contrasting colours. For a more fashion forward look, opt for a patent leather mini or shorts to build your look around. It’s all about creating new and unexpected hemlines.
